I sold my soul

I sold my soul

I bargained with the Devil, I sold my soul to him.
I prayed for God to help me but, I heard no word from him.
“I’m a walking disappointment, I need another go…"
He raised a hand to silence me… “That’s all I need to know.”
He made it very clear, the things I must accept.
The darkest of others’ secrets should be diligently kept.
"For every person you choose to help, their pain will be reflected in you.
I will ask you once again my child – is this something you can do?"
I thought I may hesitate, or stutter my reply.
Instead I threw my shoulders back and held my head up high.
"There’s no pain on this earth# that could ever compare to this,
so do your worst Devil, my friend. Grant me my dearest wish.
His eyes flashed with amusement, a laugh thundered from him, with glee.
You've really done it now kid, your life belongs to me!
I always feel him watching me, drinking in my pain.
He's the mocking voice inside my head, "you've failed once again!"
It only takes a 'Thank you' or a smile, returning mine.
To know I'd do it all again, each and every time.
He took my deal too lightly, he may have thought, he'd already won.
There's one thing he hadn't banked on though.... I can't fail, I'm their MUM.
